ABOUT THOMAS SMITH

Thomas began playing golf at 15 years old, and quickly found his passion for the game. He helped lead his high school team to win the State Championship in 2001. Thomas was recruited by Walters State to play collegiate golf, where he served as Team Captain and then transferred to UTC to play golf. He served as Team Captain there as well, and then as Graduate Assistant Coach. Thomas was then hired as a mentor and golf coach to a Baylor School student who went on to received (and accept) a full golf scholarship to Vanderbilt University!

After playing mini-tours around the Southeast for several years, Thomas became the Assistant Golf Professional at The Honors Course (Golf Digest’s #1 Course in Tennessee, Golf Digest’s America’s 100 Greatest Courses). In October 2015, when Choo Choo Golf Academy and Range opened, Thomas began his position as Director of Instruction.

Thomas is certified in TrackMan Levels 1 and 2, Gears Golf (first instructor in TN to have certification) and was named Trackman Coach of the Month for July 2017. Thomas is the Only Level 2 Swing Cat, Level 2 Trackman, and Level 2 Sam Putt Lab certified instructor in the area.

Thomas is from Harriman, TN. He and his wife, Laura, and their daughter Collier live in Ooltewah.
